Q: How is music influenced by fashion or is fashion influenced by music?
A: I think they both influence each other…every wave of music has had different styles in the 70′s Lou Reed and David Bowie was the androgenous look which was much copied in New York. In London, Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren inspired the punk movement. In the 80′s it was the New Wave movement with Human League, New Order and Boy George. It all had an effect on hair, make up, fashion etc…this has continued with people such as Madonna and now Lady Gaga.
Q: What are the hottest sounds coming out of New York, Paris, London at the moment?
A: In NYC it’s funk and soul. In Paris it’s old funk and disco. Daft Punk style electronic funk and cosmic disco. In London it’s New Wave and electro beats heavily borrowed from the 80′s. As well as old soul sounds like Amy Winehouse, Dance and influences by the local Jamaican community.
Q: What is the one CD that you can’t get enough of or your all time favourite?
A: We have a few that we love…. Moon Safari by Air, early Massive Attack and Saint Germain as well as Barry White, Marvin Gaye and early cinematic Orchestra.
Q: Music has changed so much recently especially now with designers like Karl Lagerfeld and stores like Colette in Paris bringing out their own compilations. How does this effect the music industry and sales?
A: The compilations brought out by Karl Lagerfeld have a huge influence on the fashion industry. They are played on the catwalks at fashion shows and in stores and this flows to ‘cool customers’ who shop in the high end stores like Colette.
