Time to update your wardrobe. Here are some of the top trends from New York Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2012: Pastels, Hoodies, LWD (little white dress), Mesh, Mixed Prints, One Shoulder (dresses/tops), Peplum (like a little ruffle at the waist), blazer & shorts suit, Orange (all shades from Sherbet to Blood Orange).
I seem to talk about nail polish a lot! But these ones are worth mentioning. Chanel has launched three new limited edition denim-inspired polishes in celebration of Fashion’s Night Out. The three shades are Blue Boy, Coco Blue and Blue Rebel. Three gorgeous shades for all year round. Get your hands (or nails) on them now!
Q: When did you dream up Ellison The Label?
A: During a semester studying in New York.
Q: Has anyone influenced your personal style?
A: Of course! Dries Van Noten and Raf Simons are my two gods. They have the ability to dress women in a way like no one else can. They are the kings of the perfect silhouette.
Q: What is your favourite item of clothing?
A: PANTS! I wear pants probably 5 days a week. And jeans the other two.
Q: Heels or Flats?
A: Flats forever. However being almost 6 foot makes me a bit biased.
Q: What was the inspiration behind your latest collection?
A: “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” was inspired by Pink Floyd and the lyrical genius that is behind them. They were before their time and still are.
Q: If you could collaborate with any other designer, who would it be and why?
A: I would love to collaborate with a shoe designer who uses old school artisan methods of making shoes. They type where it takes one week to make a single pair!
Q: Favourite song?
A: Woahhhh big decisions! Ummmm maybe Ballad of a Thin Man by Bob Dylan, Piano Man by Billy Joel or Rocket Man By Elton John. MAN! I just noticed a theme there….
Q: Style Crush?
A: I don’t have a style crush. I think thats a weird concept. Celebrities never really stand out to me as noticeably stylish. It’s more stylists, magazine editors and people who work in the industry who are clued up and know who to dress.
Q: Most treasured item in your closet?
A: My Dries Van Noten forest green man pants. (Could you see that one coming?)
Q: What item of clothing would you never be caught dead in?
A: Cap Sleeved anything! Cap sleeves are the most unflattering shape on any arm, no matter how tanned or toned it is. Awful. Stay away!
Q: Favourite stores to shop in?
A: In Melbourne, it would be Alice Euphemia, Marais and Belinda. I have to say 90% of my wardrobe is from these three stores.
Q: Any style tips you can give us?
A: Dress for your shape, age and personality and you can’t go wrong. Think about the colour of the garment, size of the print, fabric composition as well as the shape. Because all of those elements matter. And NO cap sleeves.
