Q&A with Make Up Artist Claire Vyverberg

December 18, 2011 | Interviews

Closette sat down with Claire to get her make up tips on looking good throughout Summer…….

Q: When the Summer heat hits, what is the best way to look polished without looking like we have too much make up on, which can result in looking sweaty and greasy?

A: Focus on oil-free formulas that give you an effortless, “I just walked straight off the beach” look.  Less is more in Summer.  Think chocolate eyeliner instead of black, ditch mascara altogether and get your lashes tinted instead.  Invest in a gel cream cheek tint instead of powder.

Q: What are the essential products we should have in our make up bag to take us from day to night this Summer?

A: South Beach by NARS- Multiple stick- its a creamy bronzer, eyeshadow, highlighter, blush…all in the one product. I also can’t live without my MAC Power Point eyeliner pencil in Bountiful Brown- its waterproof, long wear and super soft & smudgy for a sexy smokey eye in seconds.

Q: Foundation or tinted moisturiser?  Which way should we go when the temperature rises?

A: An oil-free tinted moisturiser (I swear by the Laura Mercier one.) Foundation will slide right off on a super hot day, and leave you with clogged pores and a shiny forehead. Always use something with an SPF and always use a primer in summer- you need it more than ever.
Q: If you were stranded on a desert island, what is the one product you couldn’t live without?
A: Vani-T Bronzing Custard (forget Dove, St Tropez and every other gradual tanning moisturiser…i’ve tried them ALL- this is THE BEST)
Q: Favourite Scent?
A: Summer Fragrance- Kai but my never fail, all year round fragrance….Do Son by Diptique.
Q: Favourite holiday destination?
A: Anywhere in Italy…
Q: Best place to purchase make up and skin care online?
Q: What are listening to?
A: Wonderland City- Tamarama
Q: What are you reading?
A: Harpers Bazaar, Grazia, Vogue, RUSSH…there is a pile of unread issues sitting on my bedside table waiting for a sunny day by the pool…bring on the holidays!!
Q: What one item (product or clothing) are you coveting for Summer?
A: The Tan Off Mit- getting rid of leftover spray tan has never been so easy…
Q: What’s the biggest mistake you see people make with their make up/products?  Your pet peeve?
A: Clumpy mascara- there’s no excuse… and shimmery bronzer during the day.

Saving Face!

December 16, 2011 | Shopping tips

I thought I’d share with you these two new skin serums I have just discovered – they are divine!  The brand is called Jyunka they are from France. The first one is to be used after cleansing. It gives your skin a boost of Vitamin C.  The second one to be used under your moisturiser contains boto caviar, collagen and sodium hyaluronate.  They both absorb easily into the skin and give you that moisture rich glow. A little goes along way.

Add a pop of neon to your wardrobe.  Take a look at the new collection from Christopher Kane for J Brand.  The only problem is deciding which colour to choose!  Available from www.net-a-porter.com

Going Metallic

December 8, 2011 | Shopping tips

Why not try a new nail colour – something metallic for a little bling! Fun for day or night. Think Gold, Bronze or Silver (like me).  Looks great with a blazer and skinny pants. Make sure you keep your nails short.

There is nothing more divine than the smell of flowers blooming.  Today I noticed all my gardenias have blossomed. The scent is intoxicating – Summer is here.
