I haven't updated this blog in quite a few months. Those that follow Closette will know that I've been sick and out of action. Slowly but surely I'm getting through these tough times and as fashion keeps moving forward (I will too!) So, I wanted to write about the cooler days ahead. We are now in Autumn '18 and as the days start to get a little cooler, what we wear needs to change with that. Here's a few images to wet your appetite for topping up your wardrobe wish list.
While it's still freeeezing out, coats are a must (unfortunate for this time of year). A leopard coat is classic and doesn't have to look trampy or cheap, no matter if you go for real or faux - the leopard coat will always be centre stage in any stylish gals wardrobe. Don't just save it for a special night out. Wear it with jeans and sneakers. Love these two looks.
At some point, hopefully soon Spring will appear, and that means no jacket and less layers. That's when denim comes into play. This post is about Denim three ways. A wardrobe essential. How to style Jeans, shorts and a skirt. It's your wardrobe three wishes granted!
Nothing like a white shirt and a beautiful bag. Wear it to the office or out to lunch.
Over your coat? Spring is around the corner, but it's still cold and coats are needed. No, now is not the time to go and buy one (unless you've had your eye on one all season and it's now on sale) now is the time to re-invent your look for these last few weeks - add a t-shirt (instead of a jumper), show some ankle (instead of boots) with lighter weight pants or wear with an open toe heel or mule. Take some inspiration from these images.
Annie Hall (Dianne Keaton) started this trend and it has never gone out of style. That borrowed from the boys look - is cool, sexy, can be worn all year round, perfect for both the office and playtime. This look can be worn with pants, skirts, shirts, skivvies and of course a blazer. Wear it with boots, heels or brogues.
Have designers been watching too many cartoons? I'm noticing a trend, starting at the big end of town, but before you know it these cartoon-style bags will be on the shelves of Zara, H&M, topshop et al.... The offerings below are from Hermes - the new Kelly bag as well as Prada in Velvet. Wall flowers need not apply!
Stripes are always in. Summer or winter they always look fabulous. If you're not sure how to wear them without looking like a "Where's Wally" character, take some inspiration from these stripy looks below.
I have to admit red is not my favourite colour - but every now and then you see something in red from a shoe, bag or jacket to something more subtle as a red lip or nail polish and it turns a look into a perfectly styled ensemble and adds that WOW factor!
Part 2 - whether you choose classic beige, camel, khaki, navy or black - the Mac is back!
Your wardrobe isn't complete without a fabulous trench coat. Worn all year round, the trench is always in style. These images need no further discussion.
Lately I've been loving pops of colour - more out of the box colours like pink & mustard, kelly green & orange or peach & burnt orange. Yes, it sounds like a pantone colour wheel, but it's more about adding some fun and depth to your look. Take Balenciaga's floral booties for example, they have been a huge hit amongst the fashion obsessed. These colour combo's add a something extra to our normal black on black with a touch of denim.
What to wear on a daily basis? A fabulous blazer and a pair of jeans. And yes, these days you can pretty much wear them to the office too!
The sock-shoe trend has been around for a couple of seasons now but it's well and truly at the forefront of fashion footwear (say that three times!) this current winter. The sock heel or sneaker is fun and comfy and adds a cool conversation piece to your outfit. Wear with long skirts/dresses, culottes, skinny trousers or long shorts. Below are images from Nicholas Kirkwood, Fendi and Tony Bianco.
Fashion's best muse is the street. Get inspired by these fabulous images. From oversized jackets in denim and leather, to little details such as a tie front denim shirt and safety pin earrings...
For those of you thinking about making a Closette appointment for a styling/shopping session or a wardrobe clean-out, perhaps these testimonials will help you make that phone call or send me that contact form. Go ahead. What are you waiting for???
Winter is well and truely here. Building the perfect winter wardrobe takes time and requires some good solid pieces - coats, boots and top notch accessories. The must-have winter coat this season is the fur - faux or real if that's the way you want to go. An explosion of colour or animal print. Pair it back with jeans and a simple knit or t-shirt.
And here's Gwyneth Paltrow from Hollywood A-Lister to Lifestyle Guru, she always looks on point.
There are some Hollywood stars who just get it right when it comes to fashion - no matter if they are walking the red carpet, racing through an airport or out and about grabbing a coffee. Here are a few looks from the fabulous Kate Bosworth that are worth taking inspiration from.
Fashion is always working ahead of time or is it? Everything has been done before, it's just a new, fresh take on an old trend. In Australia we view trends in a different way as we are behind in the seasons, although the trends simply get translated into the current season - take Gingham for example. A very summery fabric, but can also be worn in a shirt with a puffer or leather jacket during winter. Below are three trends that are hot right now (in the northern Summer) - besides Gingham, it's all about the Chino or Khaki's and Basket Bags a la Jane Birkin.
